Question:
You recently mixed a whopper of a one-off (or two-off) in this case) with No Doubt at Coachella. Is there a difference in mindset between those sorts of shows and your regular touring dates?
Answer:
To be honest, I prepare just as diligently to mix a Sunday service at my local church as I do No Doubt at Coachella. I never step behind a console without feeling very, VERY prepared. It’s more about coming out of the gate at full speed for the first show, so a lot of mental preparation happens before the artist ever goes on stage. Listening to their records and doing a of pre-mixing to learn arrangements and what each musician is playing in a song. I care about creating a great mix every time, whether it’s a long tour, a cool one-off, or a worship service.
