Question:
You played in the metal band Wrathchild America and later with Souls At Zero, a more groove-based, but still aggressive, version of the band. Did the style of music that you performed ever sneak into your style of mixing when you began touring with other artists?
Answer:
The short answer is yes, of course it did! The fact that I was a musician gave me credibility with the artists that I was working for. Most of them knew of my bands so they knew that I was one of them. When I started mixing I applied that same performer attitude. I wanted my mixes to be thick, powerful and to move the audience, which was my goal when I was onstage. Even now, whether I’m working with Enrique or Disturbed, the approach is the same. It’s really all about putting the emotional element into the mix just as I did when I was in a band. The performer in me will always be a part of my mix.
