This latest episode of “50 Years of Maximum Rock n’ Roll” is not about rock stars trashing hotel rooms or epic concerts. It is about the innovation and technology that has gone into much of Bob Heil’s career. Bob has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the science of audio and we wanted to give our geeky audio fans a very special episode.

I learned about ‘Sound’ from Bob’s ‘Practical Guide for Concert Sound’ way back in the early 80’s and it opened up the door to ‘the correct way to do things’… In my opinion, Bob is ‘the best’ and although there have been other pioneers in early sound/systems/engineering, Bob was able to convey real knowledge to the average person- who – if they utilized the knowledge gleaned.. only became ‘better & better’…. And me? I’m still learning from Bob and family!
Great podcast. I very much enjoy hearing Bob’s stories.
Thanks for always making me more aware of what is right in sound. I have been involved in live music and small time music production since my teens. I own 6 Heil mics. my favorite is my PR35 that I use for my vocals. Thanks for making things easy to understand and for continuing your passion for sound.
Great Podcast. Love hearing about Bob and Paul Klipsch. And learn about phasing mics
Thanks
Bob Heil is TOP’S in anyone’s book.. It’s a fiasco that for the past decade… many sound systems ( and those who run them ) are ‘inept’… and manufacturers are STILL falsifying the ‘actual’ ratings of amps and speakers… Many modern ‘array’ systems- are light-weight and couldn’t possibly compare to many much older ( heavier ) sound systems.. But, like the guitar manufacturers ( who when they started running out of premium ‘aged’ quality woods.. started using ‘lightweight’ garbage, coating it with plastic and advertising that ‘unlike your old ‘heavy’ guitar- these will save your po-widdo shoulders from hurting’.. Yeah,.. and SOUND bad. Get a padded wide strap and stick with older!
Recently bought ( from Heil Sound ) another ‘Guide to Concert Sound’ and poured through it end to end. Amazing info that is not ‘dated’ but is totally effectual. Amazing sound systems Bob Heil built for the huge rock acts who paved the way!
We would all be wise to listen to Bob Heil and his research. I highly recommend that you get a copy of his book Practical Gide to concert sound. This is a very patient man and many of us will never scratch the surface of the basics of Sound Quality till we listen to him. Musicians and Amateur radio are very fortunate to have him as a professor of sound. Thank you Sir
