Best Microphones for Live Sound
Bob Heil is a legend in the Live Concert Sound arena. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recently opened a special display of his many designs of the late 60's and early 70's that shaped the landscape of live stages. During his many years touring with such notable as the Grateful Dead, the Who, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton and a list of dozens more he was always stymied by the lack of response and natural sound from the microphones. He did what everyone else has done for the past 30 years, equalized the hell out of each microphone and was stuck with it. After all 'It All Starts At The Microphone'.
After a request from his long time friend, Joe Walsh, Bob developed the PR 20, PR 30 and PR 40 dynamic microphones with wide frequency ranges and gorgeous voice articulation.
The PR 20, with its marvelous 'snap' in the mid range, is fast becoming the replacement for the age old mushy sounding hand microphone and the absolute best snare drum mic. Not just another copy of a ball microphone but a microphone using totally new technology. The rear rejection is unparalleled and the natural articulation needs little or no EQ.
The PR 22 is the latest in hand held microphone technology. It employs the patent pending IsoBand and superior rear rejection. The IsoBand reduces unwanted handling noise making it the ideal choice for vocalists. It's also great for banjo, snare drum and cymbals.
The PR 30 is being proclaimed by the industry as the best guitar, piano and overhead microphone. The PR 30 is finally putting the cap on condensers for overhead microphones. With the amazing rear rejection of the PR 30 there is no longer any need for overly sensitive condensers that pick up everything from the 5th row to the stage back wall. All you will hear from the PR 30 is clean, clear cymbals.
The PR 35 is the most versatile microphone in the Heil family. It has the largest dynamic element in a hand held microphone, which gives it a really wide frequency response and like all the Heil mics it has outstanding rear rejection. It is great for everything from vocals, drums and guitar amps to cello, mandolin and trumpet.
The PR 40, with a frequency range of 28 Hz. to 18 kHz., it's the absolute best mic for kick drums and horns. With a great articulate mid range rise at 5K (instead of the usual nasal sounding 2 or 3k) the PR 40 is well suited for vocals and instruments.
