Ye Old Stuff
I hope this email finds Bob, and finds him well. I perfectly remember a cold, snowy winter night driving from Topeka, KS to Marissa to meet Bob and purchase gear for sound system. Phase Linear amps, JBL cabinets and one of Bob's purple mixers. Our band was White Clover, the group that became KANSAS.
Many years, miles, and recordings later (including producing 'Dust in the Wind') I am in Bethlehem, PA with my killer studio. I recently became aware of the PR series mics and would like to give them a go.
Thanks in advance, and I must add that my time spent with Bob, his patience and teaching was the foundation of my audio knowledge.
Kind regards,
Jeff
Hello Bob Heil,
My name is Ed Price. It's been a long time since I've talked to you. I worked for you for part of a summer in 1970 at Ye Olde Music Shoppe (and spent many days in' 69,' '70 and' 71 just hanging out at the store watching the things you were working on and being totally amazed at what was happening..). You were into electronic cross-overs and tuners that summer .You put up with my never ending questions about the band's equipment and what we could do to improve our sound volume and quality. You worked your magic on my old B-3 when I thought getting it to play and sound the way I wanted i would be hopeless.Your patience and understanding were appreciated then and have not been forgotten.
I was building a pedal box (carpentry is still one of my hobbies) for my nephew the other day and was making a space for his talk box when I saw the Heil logo. I thought of you and wanted to say hello. My nephew is an accomplished lead guitar player who will graduate from college this May and will be pursuing a career in music, either in recording or playing. He wondered who the guy was that invented the talk box so I filled him in.
I remember about 35 years ago my band was playing at Mother's on Division St. in Chicago. You were in town for the Convention (NAMM) and delivered a Sure mixer to the gig because I forgot to pick it up at the Shoppe on my way from Carbondale to Chicago. You brought the guys from SUNN with you and we introduced all of you to the crowd. Not too many aspiring bands get to meet the people who actually design and build their amps and P.A. equipment. My music career never made it past the gigs on the Chicago club scene, but that experience and that and knowing you during that time never fail to give me a good feeling.
I see on the Net that you never slowed down...keep it up..I wish you the best.
-Ed
